"Do you see what I see?"

We had been waiting for over a year to become pregnant and wanted to surprise J's parents while they were visiting here in El Salvador. They came and visited for 10 days and we had no news to report, or so we thought. They finished their visit and went back to the States. On March 25th, K realized that she was late with her cycle and asked if we could stop at a pharmacy to get two pregnancy tests. We went home that night and K took the first test--one red line and a light pink line. She hurriedly came out of the bathroom and said "do you see what I see?" We were both excited, but hesitant to celebrate since we had tried so long and also the test had no instructions. K called her best friend in Chile  to ask questions, since she had been our "pregnancy coach." K took the second test and again the same results--one red line and a faint pink line. So while she is talking to her best friend on skype, K sent me to a second pharmacy to see if they had a different, more accurate test. I bought a third test, that didn't work at all. We called both parents and told them that we "thought" that we were pregnant, but wanted to have a blood test. The next day we went to the laboratory and K took a blood test. The results were positive, but we were just so shocked that we couldn't believe it.

K had her first appointment with the OB/GYN on March 30. We were referred to this doctor from another missionary couple and from the U.S. Embassy website. The doctor is very qualified and bilingual, which makes it easier for us. He performed the first ultrasound and showed us the gestational sac on the screen. We finally felt sure that we were "really" pregnant!
